Attendance Awareness Month Kickoff: Bridging IA and NE Attendance Efforts
Date: Friday, September 1, 2017
Time: 10:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m.
Location: Tom Hanafan River's Edge Park, Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, Council Bluffs IA, 51501
United Way of the Midlands and the School Based Attendance Coalition invite you to help kickoff Iowa and Nebraska's Attendance Awareness Month Campaign activities. Attendance Awareness Month, held in September of each year, is a nationwide event recognizing the connection between school attendance and academic achievement. Nearly 13,000 students in our three-county area (Douglas,
Sarpy and Pottawattamie counties) missed more than 10% or 18+ days of school last year. Chronic absence is a problem we can solve when the whole community works with families and schools.
Mayors, superintendents, school administrators, juvenile justice and child welfare agencies, nonprofits, students and families from Iowa and Nebraska will come together on September 1, 2017 to unite around improving school attendance rates in our metro area. We ask you to join us and show your support for students and families in our community.
We look forward to seeing you on September 1st at Tom Hanafan River's Edge Park.
